This is going to be an on going series where I will feature an oil and talk about some of it’s uses and benefits….  Today’s Oil is Tea Tree AKA Melaleuca Alternifolia

20 Uses for Tea Tree Oil

1. Make your own mouthwash.
Mix one drop of tea tree oil with a teaspoon of water. Swish it around and spit. You do not want to swallow tea tree oil, so be sure you rinse and spit well.

2. Banish body aches.
Add 2 tablespoons of tea tree oil to your bathwater to help ease tension and relax sore muscles.

3. Soothe popped raised bumps of water on hands & feet.
Apply a few drops of tea tree oil to a cotton ball and gently dab the affected area daily until gone.

4. Ease chest congestion.
Add a few drops of tea tree oil to warm, damp wash cloth and place it on the chest for 10-15 minutes at a time.

5. Soothe chapped lips.
A drop of oil can be applied directly to the finger and rubbed on dry and cracked lips for instant relief.

6. Calm down childhood Itchy Red Rashes with blisters.
You can easily treat and dry those itchy red rashes with blisters by applying a paste of corn starch and tea tree oil to the affected areas daily.

7. Soothe a cough.
You can add a few drops of tea tree oil right into your vaporizer for relief from even the nastiest coughs.

8. Banish dry scalp conditions.
Add 7-10 drops of tea tree oil to your shampoo and it will rid the scalp of those white flakes.

9. Treat ear pressure & pain.
You can lessen the symptoms of an ear pressure & pain when you apply 2 drops of tea tree oil mixed with 1 teaspoon of olive oil around the aching ear.

10. Treat flea bites.
When fleas take a bite out of you, apply a dab of tea tree oil to lessen the itch and promote healing. This same method also works for mosquito bites.

11. Get rid of dirty grout.
You can easily clean stubborn grout when you mix a few drops of tea tree oil with baking soda and scrub away.

12. Get rid of mildew.
Add a few drops of tea tree oil to a bottle of all purpose cleanser and spray any mildew affected areas you find. Wipe dry and repeat as needed. Adding a few drops to your wash cycle will also help treat clothing that has mildew on it.

13. Clean brushes.
You can clean hair brushes as well as toothbrushes by soaking them in a gallon of hot water that a few drops of tea tree oil has been added to. Just soak, rinse, and repeat if needed.

14. Treat acne.
Apply tea tree oil to a cotton ball and rub it gently on acne affected areas. It will help soothe the skin, lessen the redness and promote healing.

15. Say goodbye to contagious skin infections on the feet.
Soak feet in a bath of hot water and a few teaspoons of tea tree oil. Be sure to get in between the toes with the solution. Dry and repeat as needed.

16. Stimulate the scalp.
Massage tea tree oil onto the scalp to reduce stress and promote hair growth.

17. Make your own shaving remedy.
Soothe skin after a shave by applying a few drops of tea tree oil and olive oil mixed together. Your skin will be soft, redness will be gone, and you won’t feel any tightness or irritation.

18. Soften elbows.
Soften any areas on the body where skin is rough by massaging a few drops of tea tree oil onto the area daily. Skin will be suppler and soon the patch will be gone.

19. Amp up your manicure.
You can eliminate nail fungus and soften cuticles by soaking your nails in a few cups of warm water mixed with 2-3 drops of tea tree oil.

20. Freshen up fabrics.
Make your own fabric refresher spray by adding a few drops of tea tree oil to a spray bottle. Spray sheets, bedding, pillowcases and other fabrics as needed and allow to dry before use.

Phew what’s that smell?.. DIY Shoe & Carpet Deodorizer

Someone call the coroner something has died in my kids shoes! LOL The other day my son came home from school and like any other typical teenager took off his shoes and proceeded to relax. Well, it wasn’t long after and everyone was pulling their shirts up over their noses to avoid the unpleasant aroma that was filling the room! I can handle many things but foot odor isn’t one of them, that’s when I went on my crusade to fix this displeasing situation. During my desperate search to find an odor killer I found this Homemade Carpet Deodorizer… So I thought hmmmm I wonder if it would work on my kids shoes?!?! All I can say is It Worked!!! The best part is it’s made with 2 ingredients… Baking Soda and Young Livings Purification Essential Oil…. You can find the recipe below!

Stinky shoes

Stinky Shoe Deodorizer

1 1/2 C. Baking Soda

10 drops YL Purification Essential Oil

(Alternative Oil Recipe 5 Drops YL Purification & 5 Drops YL Lemon Essential Oils)
1 Small Jar

Hammer

Nail

Mix Purification oil into the baking soda and pour into the jar. Take the nail & hammer and make several holes in the lid so you have a shaker. Put the lid on the jar and commence to deodorizing! Remember this recipe is dual purpose… It not only Deodorizes shoes but it also makes carpets smell fantastic too!!! Give it a go I dare ya ; )

Bugg’n out.. 2 DIY Bug Spray’s!

Ahhhhh smell that? It’s spring in full swing and with spring comes beautiful flowers, bugs, bees, ants.. You know, the trade off’s we get for putting “Old Man Winter” to bed though I must say Mr. Winter wasn’t to awful bad this year.. Anyhoo, back to the subject at hand 😉 Bugs! You know the kind… The ones that sit there and stalk your door waiting for any warm blooded creature to traverse through it then pounce on you before you get 10 feet from the door! UGH! Well not anymore… I have been able to freely walk out my door without being pestered by these flying creatures with these great DIY Bug Sprays!!! I can actually enjoy the outdoors and not be swatting or flailing my arms around looking like I’m creating some sort of new dance! LOL I knowww you all want this freedom too! So without further Adieu your bug spray recipes!

Bug Spray Recipe # 1

3 Drops YL Lavender

4 Drops YL Lemongrass

2 Drops YL Peppermint

4 Drops YL0 Citronella

4 Drops Purification

4 Oz. Witch Hazel

4 Oz. Glass Bottle with or without a spray nozzle

Put all the essential oils in the bottle first then finish filling it with the witch hazel then give it a gentle shake! Spray it on and go enjoy the Great Outdoors! 😉

Bug Spray Recipe # 2

12 Drops YL Purification

8 drops YL Peppermint

6 Drops YL Lavender

4 Drops YL Thieves

1/2 oz. Witch Hazel

Distilled water

4 oz glass or stainless steel bottle

Put all the essential oils in first then add the Witch Hazel.. Top off the remainder of the bottle with the distilled water! Shake before use and head outside to soak up some rays free from those pesky flying bugs!!!

DIY Anti-Itch Oil

Gah! Bug Bites… Itchy lil buggers. It’s pretty early in the season here for our pests to be out getting their fair share of my blood but that isn’t stopping me from being prepared for the lil suckers 😉 Today I bring you an Oil that ease the sting and itch of a bug bite should you should forget to spray yourself with a bug spray before entering the outside world! (Keep an eye out I will be posting a DIY for bug/tick spray tomorrow!)

Antiitch

Items you will need:

An empty well cleaned 5 ML Young Living Bottle

Young Living Lavender Essential Oil

Young Living Tea Tree Oil

Carrier Oil

Directions:

Take 1 Tablespoon of Carrier Oil ( Almond, Olive, Vegetable oil, etc….) and put it in the empty 5 ML bottle add 2 drops YL Tea Tree and 3 Drops YL Lavender. Shake and use!

Tea Tree and Lavender both have antiseptic properties and promote healing. Apply the mixture as often as necessary until the bites clear up. 😉

Items Needed:

  • 2 oz Glass Spray Bottle
  • Young Living Lemon Essential Oil
  • Young Living Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • Young Living Eucalyptus Radiata Essential Oil
  • Witch Hazel

Start with a 2 oz. Glass Spray Bottle Fill the bottle 3/4 of the way full with Witch hazel Add 5 Drops YL Lemon, 10 Drops YL Tea Tree, and 5 Drops Eucalyptus Radiata. Shake and use!!!
